The government of Ashraf Ghani has long since failed

The failure of the Afghan government in domestic and foreign policy as well as the many other governmental functions has resulted in this government being considered a failure. Moreover, Ashraf Ghani and his government are ignoring the Afghan constitution. Meanwhile, 96% of the Afghan population is against the current government.

The government of Ashraf Ghani is fully involved in corruption and nepotism

There is corruption in the police, military institutions, judiciary, secret service, customs, tax authorities, educational institutions, as well as corruption at all administrative authorities. Some government and administration positions are awarded in exchange for cash payments.

The government is not able to provide internal security. There are criminal gangs that make people's lives difficult in every city. They kidnap wealthy civilians to extort payments of money. Another crime is the rape and sexual abuse of underage boys, which takes place every day, but the government has failed to act.

Senior government officials have repeatedly beaten police officers, employees, and civilians. The perpetrators of such violence remain mostly unpunished.

The mineral resources in Afghanistan have been looted by various criminal groups. Substantial parts of public and private land have been wrongfully occupied by violent rulers.

The fight against opium cultivation and drug trafficking has come to a standstill. Many government officials are involved in drug trafficking. In view of their own profits from the drug trade, they therefore take no action against drug-related crime.

The economy of Afghanistan is on the decline. Due to the lack of prospects and the lack of security, more and more capital flight from Afghanistan is taking place.

Many high-ranking incumbents in the government have relationships with the Taliban and IS groups. Some even sell military weapons to IS and Taliban groups. They are therefore not working for peace in Afghanistan, otherwise their interests would be threatened.

Above all, Afghan women are suffering the most. Violence against women has increased. In practice, there is no real equality between women and men. Women's rights continue to be violated, as before. In Afghanistan, underage girls are often forced into marriage. The Afghan government has failed to act against this.

The current Afghan government has also failed in other areas, including environmental protection, infrastructure, assistance for returning refugees, etc. Unemployment has increased.

On June 2, 2017, many Afghans demonstrated in the capital Kabul due to lack of security and demanded the resignation of the government. The security forces fired on the demonstrators. There were eight dead and several injured. Then the protesters have set up tents in Kabul to continue their protests against the government. On the night of June 19-20, 2017, Afghan security forces forcibly removed the tents. During this, two people were killed and eight were injured. Ashraf Ghani and his government are responsible for this crackdown on the protesters and the resulting human sacrifice. This is a disgrace for President Ashraf Ghani.

With their ethnic-based perspectives, some of those in power in Afghanistan are threatening the national unity of Afghanistan, which could lead to conflict. The government of Ashraf Ghani is also responsible for that.

President Ashraf Ghani promised the Afghan people and the global community, in particular during the Afghanistan Conferences, to abolish corruption, to secure women's rights, to fight terrorism, and to stop opium cultivation and drug trafficking. In all these areas, he has failed. In his speeches, President Ashraf Ghani often uses big slogans without translating these into action. One of his empty slogans is always the word peace, although this is a joke. In particular, there is no trace of peace in Afghanistan at present. The Afghans have therefore lost faith in his words.

The president should be the engine of the nation that leads the people to a better today and an even better tomorrow. The current president hasn’t reached this goal. Afghanistan seems to be vegetating from a cancerous tumor. The corruption of local princes, drug lords, and clans is preventing the recovery of the country.

Should the government of Ashraf Ghani continue to remain in office, this will continue to mean a waste of both time and money. The frustration of the Afghan people will thus continue.

As long as the West provides money and the political and economic know-how, there are opportunities for democratization and the establishment of peace in Afghanistan. This goal however, cannot be achieved under the corrupt government of Ashraf Ghani.

The Afghan people want a successful government, not a failed one.

We at the FDPA have the same demand.

We demand the immediate resignation of Ashraf Ghani and his government and an apology to the Afghan people and the international community for the great harm that he and his government in Afghanistan have caused.

Sincerely,

Hayattullah Maiwand
